The Axis Alliance were the nations that fought in World War II against the Allied Forces. They were against the beliefs of the Western World and the Soviet Union. The countries part of the Axis alliance were Germany, Japan, and Italy.
Germany- Led by German leader Adolf Hitler. Germany was upset that the Western Powers (Europe and America) intervened during its war with Poland. Hitler wanted Germany to be the most powerful nation in the world.
Japan- Led by Japanese leader Hirohito. The Japanese Government wanted to unite East Asia and free East Asians from American influence. China and Japan were at war and America stepped in by stopping trade with Japan. Japan depended on the U.S. for 80% of its petroleum. This caused an economic crisis for Japan.
Italy- Led by Italian leader Benito Mussolini. Italy first declared war against Britain and France because Italy felt threatened by them. Italy was against the French monopoly over the Suez Canal. They were forced to pay tolls when entering the canal and felt that was wrong.

The Allies of World War II were the countries that opposed the Axis alliance. The Allies wanted to stop Germany, Italy, and Japan from having a lot of control. At the start of WW2, the countries that were part of the Allies were France, Poland, and Great Britain. Soon the British Commonwealth joined (Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Newfoundland, and South Africa). The Soviet Union joined in 1941 after it was invaded by Germany. The United States joined in December 1941 after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. Britain, The Soviet Union, and The United States controlled the Allies.
Soviet Union- Led by Leader Joseph Stalin. The Soviet Union joined the war after the Germans invaded them. Before that, the Soviet Union wouldn't take sides in the war, but changed it's mind after the invasion.
United States- Led by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The United States wanted to stay out of the war, but was supporting Britain's war effect. In 1941, after the attack on Pearl Harbor, The United States declared war on Japan. Then, three days later, Germany and Italy declared war on the United States
Britain- Led by Prime Minister Winston Churchill. The United Kingdom declared war on Germany. There was a naval confrontation in the Atlantic Ocean between British Navy ships and German ships.
France- Germany invaded Czechoslovakia and then Poland. France declared war on Germany first because they thought Germany would eventually declare war on France. They wanted to prevent Germany from taking over the world.
Poland- Poland was invaded on September 1, 1939, which started the war in Europe. The United Kingdom and France declared war on September 3, 1939.
